OK - so I am not doing that well with the "Lighter Side" of me these days. So in an effort to press forward with my "un-resolution", here is an attempt to laugh at myself a little bit, and invite you to as well. Here are some photos from www.yearbookyourself.com:

Cathy - "Simpsonized"

A friend of mine, new to facebook, didn't know how to upload a profile picture. Her friend helped her out by "Simpsonizing" her from http://www.simpsonizeme.com/ and posting the Simpsonized version. It was too cute. I couldn't resist...

Here I am as a character on The Simpsons. What a riot.

God and a GPS

I was driving back to my house today after a very chilly hike on Kennesaw Mountain. God meets me on the mountain, and we had an amazing conversation. As I was driving, I began to contemplate God and how He is like a GPS.

With a GPS, you put in your Point A, the origin of your journey, and your Point B, which is your desired destination. The GPS will then calculate your drive and lead you from Point A to Point B. However, sometimes along the journey, it is possible to get off track, or to make a wrong turn, or maybe you just want to defy the voice on your dashboard in an attempt to fake it out.

But there is no faking out the GPS. No matter what happens along the way, it will continually recalculate your course and still, eventually, get you to your destination.

God is like that. He has a plan for our lives. There is a Point B and no matter how many wrong turns, no matter how defiant or rebellious, no matter how far we wander away from the original course, God will continually recalculate and He will, eventually, get us to His desired destination.

Now, the choice lies with us... do we want the 40-year "wandering in circles in the desert" journey, or do we want the 2-week direct route? Either way, the Promised Land is ours to be had - but the choice lies with us to either press into the course that God has set before us, and to cooperate with it no matter how hilly or curvy, or painful, or whatever... Or we can wander around in the desert and make the journey take longer and be more painful.
Hmmm... food for thought.

Retail Therapy

It rained alot here in Atlanta today... but I've been laying around alot lately and felt like I wanted to get some blood moving. Taking a walk outside really wasn't in the picture cuz it's so darn wet, but hey, if there's a will, there's a way.

Oh - IDEA: Why not go to the Mall and be one of those "Mall Walkers"...? Hmmm... OK, sounds like a do-able plan. So, I connected with a friend and we kind of hopped into our cars and met at the mall. We were doing great making one complete lap of the upper level of the mall, but when we descended the stairs to the lower level... we found ourselves in front of the JCPenney's ladies clothing department.

This would not have been an issue except for the fact that they had these giant "70% Off" signs that literally pulled us into the store. We were helpless. But, I, having lost a significant amount of weight over the past 6 months, have found myself in need of some clothes that actually fit, primarily jeans. So, what the heck... may as well just take a look.

Well, the deals were great and plenty! I found me some $36 jeans for only $10.79.... along with a belt, and a few other things. All in all, the total savings from my spontaneous shopping spree was a whopping $124.25!!!

Now, deals like that can make the most downtrodden soul perk up. My friend and I were all smiles and declared that we were experiencing "Retail Therapy" on this gloomy Tuesday in GA. Thank you JCP for hooking us up with a nice ending to a hard day!

This Makes Me Laugh

I pretty much live on Facebook anymore. It has been a huge part of keeping me connected to the outside world. Actually I think I'm more connected now than ever simply because of this amazing social network tool sometimes referred to as "Crackbook".

One of my friends shared a video recently on his Facebook profile and it made me laugh - not just chuckle, but laugh for real. So, since this is my lighter side.... I had to share it. Please check it out - I promise, it'll be worth it!

Looney Tunes

I have well outgrown cartoons, but there was something special about those lazy Saturday mornings back when I was a kid - back when cartoons were actually kid-friendly. I used to watch Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, The Road Runner, Elmer Fudd, etc... every Saturday morning for years.

On this first day of 2009, The Cartoon Network has provided me with a very nostalgic blast from those Saturdays of old with an all-day marathon of those old Looney Tunes cartoons. I didn't realize until today just how much the pop culture of those days still has a place in my life as an adult. There are sayings that I have used over the past 40 years that I never even realized came straight from these cartoons. So weird.

I'm still watching and waiting for Marvin the Martian. "Being disintegrated makes me very angry... very angry indeed." "Where's the kaboom? There's supposed to be an earth-shattering kaboom!" He's always been one of my favorites... Oh, and I love the one where Bugs is doing the square dancing. Hilarious.

Thanks Cartoon Network for helping me out with my Un-Resolution.

New Year's Un-resolution

Here I sit on the afternoon of January 1, 2009. I'm not one for New Year's Resolutions because I do not like to fail. But, after the way 2008 played out, I think it might be a good idea to consider making the choice to lighten up a bit. Never, at any time, have I been accused of being too light-hearted, or too funny, playful, etc... It actually goes back to when I was a kid. Playfulness and childishness weren't exactly well tolerated in my home, so I ended up leaning more toward the serious side of things.

By nature, I am methodical, efficient, administrative, organized, Type-A and, let's face it, BORING! So, what better time to make the choice to lighten up a bit. The events of 2008 pretty much undid me anyway - not much left of the person I was. So, let's see if we can re-create her. God is already up to that anyway. May as well try to make the journey more enjoyable!
