God and a GPS

I was driving back to my house today after a very chilly hike on Kennesaw Mountain. God meets me on the mountain, and we had an amazing conversation. As I was driving, I began to contemplate God and how He is like a GPS.

With a GPS, you put in your Point A, the origin of your journey, and your Point B, which is your desired destination. The GPS will then calculate your drive and lead you from Point A to Point B. However, sometimes along the journey, it is possible to get off track, or to make a wrong turn, or maybe you just want to defy the voice on your dashboard in an attempt to fake it out.

But there is no faking out the GPS. No matter what happens along the way, it will continually recalculate your course and still, eventually, get you to your destination.

God is like that. He has a plan for our lives. There is a Point B and no matter how many wrong turns, no matter how defiant or rebellious, no matter how far we wander away from the original course, God will continually recalculate and He will, eventually, get us to His desired destination.

Now, the choice lies with us... do we want the 40-year "wandering in circles in the desert" journey, or do we want the 2-week direct route? Either way, the Promised Land is ours to be had - but the choice lies with us to either press into the course that God has set before us, and to cooperate with it no matter how hilly or curvy, or painful, or whatever... Or we can wander around in the desert and make the journey take longer and be more painful.
Hmmm... food for thought.
